I do a lot of projects for churches, and churches do a lot of events. I have never seen any church give so much away before. Inland Hills Church is a non-denominational church in Orange County, California. Every year they do community events, but this year they wanted to do something special for the single parents in their community. Inland Hills OC held three events for families with single parents, and everything was free. Pastor Isaac from Inland Hills made sure I understood that Summer for Single Parents was not primarily a church outreach but a Jesus outreach. He told me that all that matters is that single parent families in Orange County know that Jesus loves them.
At each event along with information about the church, the parent would receive a gift bag with a voucher for a free oil change, gas and grocery gift cards, and many other things. The first event was kid focused. They held it at Skyzone, a trampoline park and had food, games, and a drawing for a Target gift card. The second event was parent focused. At this event, they encouraged the parents to drop the kids off at the free child care provided by the church and take the night off paid for by the church by going to a salon, going out for dinner, and seeing a movie after. The third event was all about the family. It was their back to school supply giveaway where they gave away backpacks to every school aged kid packed with all of the basic school supplies they'd need. On top of that, they brought out the BurgerMonster food truck and an ice cream truck to provide food and dessert for everyone. To me, this project was awesome because it was just a church with a mission to show the love of Jesus to their community.
Through strategizing this event, I determined that the best move for this event would be to take this overarching idea and brand it as Summer for Single Parents, and from there break it down into the individual events only modifying the color to capture the personality of each event.
